Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety, parent satisfaction, and salon excellence. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding career in pet grooming.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and upsell services/merchandise.
- Handle check-ins, check-outs, reservations, and client records.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions for pets.
- Monitor pet health, respond to emergencies, and assist store-wide as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required – complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication, organization, and composure under pressure. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing for shifts, and working in a pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Manage pet parent experience including check-in/out, reservations, and consultations
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Identify and address sick/injured pets, assist other departments as needed
