Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Garfield, New Jersey, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, maintain client records, and drive salon sales. Uphold cleanliness and humane conditions, respond to pet health issues, and assist across store departments as needed.
Daily Operations
- Greet clients, handle reservations, check-ins, and check-outs
- Perform maintenance and end-of-day cleaning
- Promote merchandise and services to exceed sales targets
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete our Salon Academy and safety certification. Proficiency in computers, strong communication, organizational skills, and composure under pressure required. Must handle physical demands like lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays essential.
