Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences while contributing to store cleanliness and sales goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop safe technical skills meeting company expectations.
- Engage pet parents to recommend solutions, handle appointments, check-ins/outs, and promote services/merchandise.
- Maintain salon sanitation, perform daily cleaning, and ensure humane conditions.
- Respond to pet health issues and assist across departments.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, computer skills, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions per checklists
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, assist other departments as needed
