Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's expert grooming teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll deliver top-tier salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and build lasting pet parent relationships. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers eager to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and drive salon sales.
- Handle appointments, client records, check-ins, check-outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane pet conditions daily.
- Respond swiftly to pet health issues and assist across store departments.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. You'll need physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, strong communication, and composure under pressure. Proficiency in computers and keen attention to safety are essential.

- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow company policies
