Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee in our Hoover, Alabama location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. This entry-level role involves learning industry-best grooming techniques while engaging pet parents and ensuring positive salon experiences. Advance to Pet Stylist upon completing PetSmart Grooming Academy.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Maintain salon cleanliness, recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments and client records, promote sales, ensure pet safety, and assist other departments as needed. Uphold company policies for exceptional pet parent outcomes.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Demonstrate computer proficiency, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, composure under pressure, organizational skills, attention to detail, and strong communication. Physical demands include lifting up to 50lbs (team lift 100lbs+), standing, stooping, and working in a pet hair-filled environment.

Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane pet conditions
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, including vet transport
- Assist other departments and follow company policies
