Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in delivering best-in-class salon services while upholding our vision, mission, values, and pet safety standards. Ideal for passionate animal lovers eager to launch a grooming career in Houston, Texas.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, reservations, check-ins/outs, and client records. Maintain salon cleanliness and sanitation, promote sales to meet targets, and assist in other store areas as needed. Ensure immediate action for sick/injured pets and follow all policies.
Daily Operations
- Greet pet parents and handle inquiries
- Conduct reminder calls and rebookings
- Uphold humane conditions and safety
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Proficiency in computer applications, ability to react under pressure, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, strong organization, attention to safety, and communication skills required. Physical demands include standing, lifting up to 50lbs (team lift 100lbs+), working in wet/noisy environments with pet hair.
