Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart’s experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you’ll deliver best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety, parent satisfaction, and salon excellence. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under guidance, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, maintain client records, and promote services to drive sales. Uphold cleanliness standards, monitor pet health, and assist across store departments while following all company policies.
Daily Operations
- Conduct check-ins/outs and reminder calls
- Recommend wellness products based on pet needs
- Ensure humane conditions and immediate action for sick pets
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete our Salon Academy for certification. Strong communication, organization, and composure under pressure required. Must handle physical demands like lifting 50+ lbs, standing for shifts, and working in a pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays essential.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
