Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Joliet, Illinois, you'll receive hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll engage pet parents, deliver best-in-class salon services, and uphold our vision for pet safety and satisfaction. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while contributing to store operations.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and make reminder calls. Recommend wellness solutions, promote sales, maintain salon cleanliness, ensure pet safety, and assist with sick/injured pets. Support other departments and follow all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Need strong communication, organization, attention to detail, composure under pressure, and flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays. Proficiency in computers required. Physically demanding: lift 50+ lbs, stand/walk extensively, work in wet/hairy environments with moderate-high noise.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Capacity to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair/wet environments (experience)
