Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences while contributing to store cleanliness and sales goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Develop safe technical skills and recommend wellness solutions based on pet needs.
- Handle check-ins, check-outs, reservations, client records, and appointment reminders.
- Maintain salon sanitation, promote sales, and respond to pet health emergencies.
- Assist other departments and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Requires flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, lifting up to 50lbs (team lift 100lbs+), computer proficiency, strong communication, organization, and composure under pressure. Physical demands include standing, stooping, reaching, and depth perception.

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and team lift over 100 pounds (experience)
- Proficiency in computer applications (experience)
- Capacity to react under pressure and maintain composure (experience)

- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent experience including check-in/out, reservations, and consultations
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane pet conditions
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, transporting to vet as needed
- Assist other departments and follow all company policies
