Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll engage pet parents, deliver top-tier salon services, and uphold our vision for pet safety and satisfaction. This entry-level position builds foundational skills in grooming while contributing to store success.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Develop safe technical skills meeting or exceeding expectations.
- Enhance pet parent experience through consultations, reservations, check-ins, and rebooking.
- Promote salon sales, recommend products, and achieve productivity targets.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, perform daily maintenance, and ensure humane pet conditions.
- Identify and address sick/injured pets, assist other departments, and follow all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; technical exam may apply. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational skills, and strong communication. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, and working in a pet hair/wet environment.

- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety protocols
- Drive salon sales through merchandise and service promotions
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
