Role Overview

As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Las Cruces, New Mexico location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. This entry-level role focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques while engaging with pet parents and ensuring positive outcomes. Obtained after completing PetSmart Grooming Academy, this position upholds our vision of exceptional salon services, store cleanliness, and pet safety.

Key Responsibilities

Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct reminder calls, and handle check-in/out procedures. Recommend wellness solutions, promote sales to hit targets, maintain salon sanitation via daily checklists, and respond to pet health issues by transporting to vets as needed. Assist other departments and follow all policies.

Experience & Skills

Prior grooming experience preferred with a possible technical exam. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling under pressure, strong communication, organizational detail, computer proficiency, and physical ability to stand, lift 50+ lbs, and work in a wet, noisy environment with pet hair. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.
