Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's expert styling teams post-Grooming Academy completion. Gain skills in full-service grooming while ensuring pet safety, salon excellence, and outstanding pet parent experiences in a dynamic retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Engage pet parents with personalized recommendations for health and wellness products.
- Handle salon operations: greetings, reservations, check-ins/outs, reminder calls, and record-keeping.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues immediately.
- Drive sales through merchandise promotion and service upselling to hit targets.
Experience & Skills
Ideal candidates have prior grooming experience (technical exam may apply) and complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy. Thrive under pressure with strong communication, organization, and pet-handling skills. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, and working in a pet-filled environment. Flexible availability required.

- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays (experience)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Capacity to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing under PetSmart standards
- Recommend health/wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety daily
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
