Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Lawrence, Kansas location, you'll receive hands-on training from industry-leading Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on developing safe grooming skills while ensuring positive pet parent experiences, store cleanliness, and pet safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/check-outs, and make reminder calls.
- Upsell services and merchandise to boost salon sales and meet productivity goals.
- Maintain impeccable salon hygiene, perform daily maintenance, and address pet health issues promptly.
- Collaborate across departments and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication, organization, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, and physical stamina to lift 50+ pounds in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment.

- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
