Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's expert grooming teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll deliver top-tier salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and build lasting pet parent relationships. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers ready to launch a rewarding grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and promote salon sales targets.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues immediately.
- Upsell wellness products and services based on pet needs.
- Assist in other store areas and uphold PetSmart's values and policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate pet handling skills, composure under pressure, organizational prowess, and flexibility for evenings/weekends. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing for shifts, and working in a pet-filled environment. Strong communication and computer skills essential.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing under PetSmart standards
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, client records, and reminder calls
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, achieve targets, and assist other departments as needed
