Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Madison, Wisconsin, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on developing safe technical grooming skills while engaging pet parents and ensuring positive outcomes under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full menu of supervised grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop safe technical skills meeting company expectations and recommend wellness solutions based on pet needs.
- Deliver exceptional pet parent experiences via in-person, phone, and register interactions; handle reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; perform daily maintenance and end-of-day cleaning.
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to achieve targets; assist in other departments as needed and respond to pet health issues.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, schedule flexibility (evenings/weekends/holidays), and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a pet hair-filled, moderate-noise environment.
