Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from PetSmart's expert styling teams through our renowned Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in professional grooming while ensuring pet safety and exceptional customer service. Advance your career in pet care with structured training and real-world experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and maintain client records.
- Recommend wellness solutions, promote services/merchandise, and drive salon sales targets.
- Uphold salon cleanliness, perform daily maintenance, and ensure humane pet conditions.
- Respond to pet health issues, assist other departments, and follow all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible availability required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, and sanitary services
- Recommend health/wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage check-in/out, reservations, client records, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
