Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams through our renowned Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on mastering industry-leading grooming techniques while delivering exceptional salon services under supervision. Uphold our vision of pet safety, cleanliness, and outstanding pet parent experiences in a dynamic retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct reminder calls, and handle check-ins/check-outs. Promote sales of merchandise and services to hit targets, maintain salon sanitation per checklists, ensure pet welfare by identifying issues and coordinating vet transport if needed, and assist across store departments as required.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply); must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Excel with strong communication, organizational skills, attention to detail, and composure under pressure. Proficiency in computer applications required. Physical demands include standing, lifting up to 50 lbs (team lift 100+ lbs), working in wet/noisy environments with pet hair, and flexible scheduling for evenings, weekends, holidays.
