Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Mays Landing, New Jersey, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Obtained after completing academy training, it's perfect for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Engage pet parents to recommend solutions, manage appointments, maintain salon hygiene, and drive sales. Ensure humane conditions, respond to pet health issues, and assist across store departments while upholding company values.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek strong communicators with organizational skills, composure under pressure, computer proficiency, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling for evenings, weekends, and holidays required.

- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow company policies
