Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee in our McHenry, Illinois location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. This entry-level role focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques while delivering positive experiences for pets and their parents. Successful completion of PetSmart’s Grooming Academy advances you to Pet Stylist in Training, sharing responsibilities for store cleanliness, pet safety, and salon success.
Key Responsibilities
Core Grooming Duties
Under supervision, perform full grooming services like bathing, brushing, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Develop safe technical skills meeting company expectations.
Customer & Sales Focus
Greet pet parents, answer questions, manage reservations, conduct check-ins/check-outs, and make reminder calls. Recommend solutions, sell merchandise/services, and drive salon sales to hit targets.
Safety & Maintenance
Maintain highest cleanliness and humane conditions in the grooming area. Take immediate action for sick/injured pets, including vet transport. Assist other departments and follow all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, computer skills, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment.
