Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under supervision to deliver exceptional salon services while learning best-in-class techniques. This position emphasizes pet safety, customer satisfaction, store cleanliness, and sales growth in a supportive, pet-loving environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care under supervision.
- Consult with pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and drive salon sales.
- Handle check-ins, check-outs, reservations, reminder calls, and maintain accurate client records.
- Ensure salon cleanliness and humane conditions, performing daily maintenance and end-of-day deep cleans.
- Respond to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our technical exam and Academy training to qualify. Successful candidates demonstrate composure under pressure, strong communication, organizational skills, and physical ability to lift 50+ pounds in a dynamic salon setting with pet hair and moderate noise. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.
