Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under supervision of expert stylists, learning best-in-class techniques for baths, brushes, full grooms, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services. This position emphasizes pet safety, customer satisfaction, salon hygiene, and driving salon sales in a fast-paced retail setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver full grooming services under supervision per PetSmart standards.
- Build safe, proficient grooming skills exceeding company benchmarks.
- Engage pet parents with personalized recommendations for health, wellness, and merchandise.
- Handle salon operations: greetings, reservations, check-in/out, reminder calls, and rebooking.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues.
- Collaborate across departments and promote our culture of Belonging.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a wet, noisy environment with pet hair. Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, holidays required; computer proficiency essential.

- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage pet parent experience including check-in/out, reservations, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; handle sick pets immediately
- Promote salon sales and participate in store culture and policies
