Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee in Mesquite, Texas, you'll join our Professional Styling team for hands-on training through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. Under supervision, develop safe technical skills in bathing, brushing, and grooming while delivering exceptional pet parent experiences. This entry-level role builds foundational expertise in the pet industry with clear paths for advancement.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include performing full grooming services like nail trims and sanitary care; recommending wellness solutions; handling salon operations such as check-ins, reservations, and rebooking; maintaining cleanliness and humane conditions; promoting sales; and assisting with pet emergencies or other departments as needed.
Daily Operations
- Greet pet parents and manage appointments
- Ensure pet safety and salon sanitation
- Drive salon metrics through upselling
Experience & Skills
No prior experience required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Preferred: grooming background (technical exam may apply). Must have strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling essential.

- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and handle physical demands (experience)
- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
