Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety, parent satisfaction, and salon excellence. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding career in pet grooming.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and recommend wellness solutions.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues.
- Drive sales through merchandise recommendations and salon promotions.
- Assist other departments and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
PetSmart seeks enthusiastic trainees with prior grooming experience (preferred; technical exam may apply). Key requirements include PetSmart Salon Academy completion, computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling, strong communication, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing under PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage pet parent experience including check-in/out, reservations, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; handle sick pets immediately
- Promote salon sales and participate in store culture and policies
