Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational skills in delivering best-in-class salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences. Located in Midlothian, Virginia, this position offers a pathway to a rewarding career in pet care.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and maintain client records. Promote sales of merchandise and services, uphold salon cleanliness, and take action on pet health issues. Assist other departments as needed and follow all company policies.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Engaging pet parents with recommendations and reservations.
- Ensuring humane conditions and safety in the grooming area.
- Performing end-of-day maintenance and sanitation.
Experience & Skills
PetSmart prioritizes trainable talent. Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication, organizational skills, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, and physical stamina to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Proficiency in computers and composure under pressure are essential.
