Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll learn from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams through our renowned Grooming Academy. Under supervision, deliver best-in-class salon services while upholding our vision for pet safety, cleanliness, and exceptional pet parent experiences. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers eager to build a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and promote salon sales/merchandise.
- Handle reservations, check-ins, check-outs, client records, and reminder calls.
- Maintain salon sanitation, perform daily cleaning, and ensure humane pet conditions.
- Respond to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling including evenings/weekends required. Computer proficiency essential.

- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet health emergencies
