Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll work under expert supervision to master bath, brush, nail trims, teeth brushing, and full grooming services. This position emphasizes pet safety, exceptional customer service, salon operations, and driving salon success while upholding PetSmart’s vision and values.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver supervised grooming services meeting PetSmart’s high standards.
- Engage pet parents with personalized recommendations and solutions.
- Handle salon appointments, check-ins, check-outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane pet conditions.
- Promote services and merchandise to achieve sales goals.
- Respond swiftly to pet health issues and support store-wide needs.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred (technical exam may apply), but passion for pets is key. You’ll need PetSmart Salon Academy completion, computer skills, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Strong communication and organizational skills ensure outstanding pet parent experiences.

- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-ins, check-outs, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist with sick/injured pets and other store departments as needed
