Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and deliver exceptional pet parent experiences while contributing to store cleanliness and sales goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per company standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and reminder calls.
- Recommend wellness solutions and promote salon sales to meet targets.
- Maintain salon sanitation, follow maintenance checklists, and ensure humane pet conditions.
- Respond to sick/injured pets and assist other departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, computer proficiency, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling including evenings, weekends, and holidays required.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety protocols
- Drive salon sales through merchandise and service promotion
- Assist with sick/injured pets and cross-department support
