Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee in our Muskegon, Michigan store, you'll train under experienced Professional Stylists through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. Gain hands-on skills in best-in-class salon services while ensuring pet safety and exceptional pet parent experiences. This entry-level role builds toward becoming a certified Pet Stylist.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Build safe technical skills exceeding company expectations.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues promptly.
- Assist in other store areas and follow all policies.
Experience & Skills
PetSmart prioritizes passion for pets over extensive experience. Prior grooming a plus (technical exam may apply). Required: Completion of Salon Academy training, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, strong communication, and composure under pressure.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and handle physical demands (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; promote sales targets
