Role Overview
Our Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's expert grooming teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll deliver top-tier salon services under supervision, build pet parent relationships, and ensure the highest standards of pet care and safety in a fast-paced retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care while developing safe technical skills.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness, perform daily maintenance, and respond to pet health emergencies.
- Collaborate across departments, uphold company policies, and contribute to our culture of belonging.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience is preferred but not required – you'll shine with strong communication, organizational skills, and composure under pressure. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy, demonstrate computer proficiency, and be physically able to lift 50+ lbs in a pet-filled environment. Flexible scheduling for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety protocols
- Drive salon sales through merchandise and service promotions
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
