Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on developing safe grooming techniques while delivering exceptional salon services under supervision. Located in New Bern, North Carolina, you'll contribute to pet parent satisfaction, store cleanliness, and sales growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Consult with pet parents on services and recommend wellness solutions.
- Manage appointments, client records, check-ins, check-outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain salon sanitation, pet safety, and respond to emergencies.
- Drive sales by promoting services and merchandise.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate composure under pressure, strong communication, organizational skills, and physical ability to lift 50+ pounds in a pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in a fast-paced environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Engage pet parents to recommend health and wellness solutions
- Handle salon check-in/check-out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety standards
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
