Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in New Hartford, New York, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques while delivering positive experiences for pets and their parents under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Under guidance, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, recommend wellness solutions, maintain salon cleanliness, ensure pet safety, and promote salon sales. Assist in other store areas and follow all company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Strong communication, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure required. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping, and working in a pet hair-filled environment. Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, and holidays essential.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and handle physical demands (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; assist other departments as needed
