Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart’s experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you’ll engage with pet parents and pets to deliver best-in-class salon services while upholding company values, ensuring pet safety, and maintaining salon standards.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart procedures. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and recommend wellness solutions. Promote salon sales, maintain cleanliness and humane conditions, and assist with sick/injured pets or other store duties as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Requires computer proficiency, strong communication, organizational skills, composure under pressure, and flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, stooping in a pet hair-filled, noisy environment.

- Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing under PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; assist other departments as needed
