Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Newmarket, Ontario, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role involves engaging pet parents, delivering best-in-class salon services under supervision, and upholding our vision for pet safety and customer satisfaction. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety standards, recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments and client records, promote sales to hit targets, and assist with sick/injured pets or other store duties as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling, customer service, organizational abilities, communication, composure under pressure, and computer proficiency. Physical demands: lift up to 50 lbs (team lift 100+ lbs), stand/walk extensively, with depth perception required.

Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary services per PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent experience including check-in/out, reservations, and consultations
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; perform daily maintenance
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Handle sick/injured pets and assist other departments as needed
