Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee in Newport, Kentucky, you'll train under experienced Pet Stylists in PetSmart's Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on mastering safe grooming techniques, delivering exceptional pet parent experiences, and upholding our salon standards. Successful completion of training elevates you to Pet Stylist.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, provide full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and reminder calls while recommending services and products.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; perform daily maintenance and end-of-day checklists.
- Identify and respond to sick/injured pets, transporting to vets as needed.
- Drive salon sales through upselling and contribute to store metrics.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our technical exam and Academy training. You need flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, composure under pressure, strong communication, organizational skills, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment with moderate noise.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Capacity to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety standards
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
