Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee in Norman, Oklahoma, you'll train under experienced Professional Stylists in PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on mastering industry-leading grooming techniques while delivering exceptional salon services. Uphold pet safety, store cleanliness, and customer satisfaction in a dynamic retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, execute full grooming services like bathing, brushing, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Engage pet parents to recommend solutions, manage appointments, promote sales, and maintain a spotless salon. Respond to pet health issues, assist other departments, and drive salon metrics.
Daily Tasks Include:
- Greeting clients and handling reservations
- Performing check-in/out procedures
- End-of-day cleaning and maintenance
- Selling merchandise and services
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy for certification. Proficiency in computers, strong communication, organizational skills, and flexibility for evenings/weekends required. Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand for long periods, and work in a pet-filled environment essential.

- Capacity to lift 50+ pounds and handle physical demands (experience)
- Attention to detail and composure under pressure (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow company policies
