Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role follows successful completion of PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. Under supervision from expert stylists, you'll learn industry-leading grooming techniques, deliver exceptional salon services, and ensure pet safety while engaging pet parents.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop safe technical skills meeting company expectations.
- Consult with pet parents on services, recommend wellness solutions, and manage appointments, check-ins, check-outs, and records.
- Drive salon sales through promotions and merchandise recommendations.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; handle sick/injured pets promptly.
- Assist other departments and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include computer proficiency, strong communication, organizational abilities, attention to detail, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, and physical capability to lift 50+ lbs, stand, stoop, and handle pets safely.

- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and maintain composure under pressure (experience)
