Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart’s experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you’ll engage with pet parents, deliver best-in-class salon services, and uphold our vision for pet safety and satisfaction. This entry-level position in North Haven, CT, is perfect for passionate animal lovers ready to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, execute full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop safe technical skills meeting company expectations while recommending wellness solutions.
- Handle pet parent experiences via in-person, phone, and register interactions, including reservations and rebooking.
- Maintain salon cleanliness, perform daily maintenance, and ensure humane conditions for all pets.
- Drive sales by promoting services and merchandise to achieve targets; assist in emergencies and other departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational skills, and strong communication. Physical demands include lifting 50+ lbs, standing, and working in a pet hair-filled, noisy environment.
