Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role provides hands-on training from industry-leading professionals through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. Under supervision, trainees deliver exceptional salon services while learning safe grooming techniques, pet safety standards, and customer engagement. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding career in pet grooming.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions, manage appointments, and drive salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions, performing daily maintenance.
- Handle check-ins/outs, client records, reminder calls, and emergency pet care as needed.
- Collaborate across departments and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate strong communication, organization, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, physical stamina (lifting 50+ lbs), and composure under pressure. Proficiency in computer applications is essential.

- Attention to detail and composure under pressure (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet health emergencies
