Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Oakville, Ontario, you'll receive hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams through our renowned Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, salon excellence, and outstanding pet parent experiences.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, maintain client records, and promote sales to hit targets. Uphold salon cleanliness, identify sick pets for vet transport, and assist other departments as needed. Follow all company policies for humane, safe operations.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand for shifts, and handle pets safely. Flexible availability for evenings, weekends, holidays required.

- Ability to work flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays (experience)
- Capacity to lift 50+ lbs and handle physical demands (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, check-outs, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet health emergencies
