Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll provide best-in-class salon services while upholding company values, ensuring pet safety, and driving salon success. This entry-level position is perfect for animal lovers eager to launch a grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, deliver full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Engage pet parents to recommend solutions, manage appointments, maintain salon cleanliness, and promote sales. Assist with sick pets, work flexibly across departments, and follow all policies for a safe, humane environment.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, computer skills, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled setting. Flexible availability required.
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, stoop, lift heavy loads, and work in moderate noise/wet conditions with pet hair exposure.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and work in pet hair environment (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, grooming, nail trims, teeth brushing under PetSmart standards
- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company expectations
- Recommend health/wellness solutions and merchandise to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety; handle sick pets
- Promote salon sales and participate in store culture and policies
