Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in O'Fallon, Illinois, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques while delivering positive experiences for pets and their parents. Uphold our vision, mission, values, and strategy while contributing to store cleanliness and pet safety.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct reminder calls, handle check-in/out procedures, and recommend wellness solutions. Maintain salon sanitation, promote sales to meet targets, assist other departments, and ensure immediate action for sick/injured pets.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Demonstrate proficiency in computer applications, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling, strong organization, attention to safety, and excellent communication. Physical demands include standing, lifting up to 50+ pounds, working in wet/hairy environments with moderate to high noise.

- Develop safe technical grooming skills meeting company standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
