Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training), you'll receive hands-on guidance from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll engage pet parents, deliver best-in-class salon services, and uphold our vision for pet safety and satisfaction. This entry-level role in Oklahoma City offers training from industry leaders while contributing to store cleanliness and sales goals.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct reminder calls, and handle check-in/out procedures. Recommend wellness solutions, promote merchandise, maintain salon sanitation per checklists, and respond to pet health issues. Assist other departments and follow all company policies.
Physical Demands
Stand, walk, lift up to 50 pounds (team lift 100+), work in wet/pet hair environments with moderate to high noise. Specific vision for depth perception required.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays. Proficiency in computer applications essential.

- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage salon check-in/out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist with sick/injured pets and cross-department support
