Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Oswego, Illinois location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. This entry-level role involves learning industry-best grooming techniques while engaging pet parents and ensuring positive salon experiences. Successful completion of PetSmart Grooming Academy is required to advance.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, check-ins/outs, and reminders. Recommend wellness solutions, promote sales, and maintain salon cleanliness. Ensure pet safety, report issues promptly, and assist other departments as needed while upholding company policies.
Daily Operations
- Consult with pet parents on services and needs
- Execute maintenance checklists for sanitation
- Drive salon metrics through upselling
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; technical exam may apply. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organizational skills, flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment with moderate noise and wet conditions.
