Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role is your entry into professional pet grooming. After completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy, you'll receive hands-on guidance from expert stylists. This position focuses on delivering top-tier salon services while prioritizing pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon operations in our Ottawa location.
Key Responsibilities
- Under supervision, execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Develop safe technical skills meeting company expectations.
- Interact with pet parents: greet, answer questions, manage reservations, check-ins/outs, and reminder calls.
- Recommend health solutions, promote services/merchandise to drive salon sales.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; handle sick/injured pets promptly.
- Assist other store departments as needed and uphold company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), organizational detail, and strong communication. Physical demands: standing, lifting 50+ lbs, handling pets with depth perception required.
