Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role launches your grooming career after completing PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. Under expert supervision, you'll learn industry-leading techniques while delivering exceptional salon services, ensuring pet safety, and building lasting pet parent relationships. This entry-level position offers hands-on training in a high-volume retail pet store.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards.
- Engage pet parents to recommend wellness solutions and upsell services/merchandise.
- Handle salon operations: greetings, reservations, check-ins/outs, reminder calls, and record-keeping.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions; respond to pet health issues immediately.
- Drive sales targets and contribute to store-wide success.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart Academy training. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, composure under pressure, and physical stamina (lifting 50+ lbs, standing, wet/hairy environments). Flexible scheduling for evenings/weekends/holidays required. Computer proficiency essential.

- Recommend health/wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety daily
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist other departments and follow company policies
