Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Palm Desert, California, you'll receive hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After successfully completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll engage pet parents, deliver best-in-class salon services, and uphold our vision for pet safety and satisfaction. This entry-level role offers a clear path to becoming a skilled Pet Stylist.
Key Responsibilities
Under supervision, perform full grooming services like baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Greet pet parents, manage appointments, conduct check-ins/outs, and maintain client records. Promote sales of merchandise and services, ensure salon cleanliness, and respond to pet health emergencies. Assist other departments as needed and follow all company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred; technical exam may be required. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy training and safety certification. Key skills include safe pet handling, customer service, organizational abilities, communication, and physical stamina to lift 50+ pounds in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bath, brush, and grooming services including nail trims and sanitary care
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety standards
- Promote salon sales, merchandise, and services to meet targets
- Assist in other store departments and respond to pet emergencies
