Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on learning from PetSmart's expert grooming teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll deliver top-tier salon services under supervision, ensure pet safety, and build lasting pet parent relationships in a dynamic retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care while developing safe technical skills.
- Engage pet parents with personalized recommendations, handle appointments, check-ins, check-outs, and reminder calls.
- Maintain impeccable salon cleanliness and humane conditions, performing daily maintenance and end-of-day checklists.
- Drive salon sales by promoting services and merchandise to achieve targets.
- Respond swiftly to pet health issues and assist across store departments as needed.
Experience & Skills
Ideal candidates have prior grooming experience (technical exam may apply) and complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy. Required: computer proficiency, composure under pressure, flexible scheduling (evenings/weekends/holidays), strong communication, organization, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled setting.

- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in pet hair environment (experience)

- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-in/out, and rebooking
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
