Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in Philadelphia, PA, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams through PetSmart’s Grooming Academy. This entry-level role builds foundational grooming skills while ensuring pet safety, customer satisfaction, and salon excellence. Ideal for animal lovers eager to launch a career in pet care.
Key Responsibilities
Core Grooming Duties
Under supervision, perform full bath, brush, grooming services, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care per PetSmart standards. Develop safe technical skills exceeding company expectations.
Customer & Sales Focus
Engage pet parents in-person and via phone: greet, answer questions, manage reservations, check-in/out, maintain records, recommend solutions, and upsell services/merchandise to hit sales targets.
Salon Operations
Ensure cleanliness, sanitation, and humane conditions; follow maintenance checklists. Identify sick/injured pets and coordinate vet transport. Assist other store departments and adhere to all policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred (technical exam may apply). Must complete PetSmart Salon Academy and safety certification. Seek candidates with strong communication, organization, attention to detail, composure under pressure, computer proficiency, and flexibility for evenings/weekends/holidays. Physical demands include standing, lifting 50+ lbs, working in wet/noisy environments with pet hair.
