Role Overview
As a Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) in our Plantation, Florida location, you'll receive hands-on training from our experienced Professional Styling teams. This entry-level role focuses on learning industry-best grooming techniques while delivering positive experiences for pets and their parents. Obtained after completing PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll build safe technical skills under supervision.
Key Responsibilities
Under guidance, perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, teeth brushing, and sanitary care. Engage pet parents to recommend solutions, manage appointments via phone and in-person, maintain salon cleanliness per checklists, ensure pet safety, and promote sales to hit targets. Assist other departments and respond to pet health issues as needed.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred with a possible technical exam. Must complete PetSmart’s Salon Academy and safety certification. Key skills include pet handling, customer service, organization, communication, and physical ability to lift 50+ lbs in a fast-paced, pet-filled environment with moderate noise and wet conditions. Flexible scheduling required.

- Ability to lift 50+ pounds and handle physical demands (experience)
- Excellent written and verbal communication (experience)
Responsibilities
- Perform supervised bathing, brushing, nail trims, and grooming services per PetSmart standards
- Recommend health and wellness solutions to pet parents
- Manage pet parent interactions, reservations, check-ins, and check-outs
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety protocols
- Promote salon services and merchandise to meet sales targets
- Assist in other store departments and follow company policies
