Role Overview
The Pet Groomer Trainee (Pet Stylist in Training) role offers hands-on training from PetSmart's experienced Professional Styling teams. After completing the PetSmart Grooming Academy, you'll deliver best-in-class salon services under supervision, ensuring pet safety, parent satisfaction, and salon excellence. This entry-level position builds foundational skills for a rewarding grooming career.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform full grooming services including baths, brushes, nail trims, and sanitary care while developing safe technical skills.
- Consult with pet parents on needs, recommend solutions, and drive salon sales through merchandise and service upsells.
- Handle check-ins, check-outs, reservations, reminder calls, and maintain accurate client records.
- Uphold the highest cleanliness and humane standards in the grooming area, including daily maintenance.
- Respond to pet health issues, assist other departments, and follow all company policies.
Experience & Skills
Prior grooming experience preferred but not required—complete our Salon Academy for certification. Successful candidates demonstrate composure under pressure, strong communication, organizational prowess, and physical capability to lift 50+ pounds in a dynamic environment with pet hair and moderate noise. Flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays is essential.

- Manage salon check-in/check-out, reservations, and client records
- Maintain salon cleanliness, sanitation, and pet safety throughout shifts
- Promote salon sales targets and participate in store-wide duties as needed
